The price of the U.S. dollar in Colombia traded higher on Monday, due to a continued preference for the greenback amid global risk aversion amid concerns about the world economy.

DOLLAR EXCHANGE RATE IN COLOMBIA ON JUNE 20

The price of the dollar in Colombia for this Monday, June 20, 2022 is 3,904 Colombian pesos, and in the stock market, the benchmark MSCI COLCAP index fell 1.3% to 1,454.02 points, with brokers cautious two days before the presidential elections.

At the regional level, Latin American stock and exchange markets closed Friday a week of losses, as the preference for the dollar continued amid global risk aversion due to worries about the world economy.

According to Reuters, the impact extended to the commodities market, with a drop of around 6% in oil prices, an important foreign exchange earner for many countries in the region.

"This is how the moderation of the prices of metals such as copper or alum affect the quotation of currencies in Chile and Peru. In the same way, a drop in oil prices affects the behavior of the Mexican and Colombian currencies", explained David Cubides, chief economist of the brokerage Alianza.

"On the other hand, the increase in the risk premium also partly explains the depreciation of the region's currencies so far in June. In addition, Brazil and Colombia must be added to the uncertainty that continues to generate the electoral process," he added.
